What is CenRut?
CenRut is a community-based project to create and freely distribute GPS maps of Central America. The project covers El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and Panama.
Why do you do this?
We believe that this is an immensely valuable project that allows us to apply modern technology to help raise the standard of living in Central America. Plus, we enjoy it.
Who are you?
The project leader is Willy, who lives in El Salvador. CenRut also works with similar projects in other countries, including Venezuela (gpsyv.net), Argentina (proyectomapear.com.ar), and Peru (perut.org).
How do you finance all this?
The small amount of actual cash required for the project is generously provided by donors. The value of the work provided by the volunteers is infinitely larger than this.
How can I help?
The best way to help is to send in data to improve the project. Instructions are included in the download package.
How do I install the maps on my computer?
You need to have the Mapsource program on your computer to see the CenRut maps. If you already have Mapsource, you can skip to step 2:
1) Download and install Garmin MapSource 6.13.7 http://rapidshare.com/files/148052619/MapSource_6137.rar which is a stable version of the program. Newer versions are available, but may not be stable and do not offer any real advantage.
2) Download the CenRut package Mapas/CenRut26.rar. Then run the installer(.exe) that is inside the package.
For Android, Iphone, Windows Mobile and Simbian, the CenRut project runs in a software called "Navitel" and the maps are here Mapas/CenRut_Navitel26.rar (only unrar this archives in the "maps" folder of navitel program.)
What if I have additional questions?
Please feel free to post questions in the Cenrut.org forum, and we will be happy to help!
